fischer undercut anchors secure Downtown One commercial and residential tower

An iconic façade
For the most prominent building project in the Albanian capital Tirana, the commercial and residential tower Downtown One, the fischer group of companies supplied around 85,000 Zykon plate anchors. Thanks to the secure and invisible undercut anchors, the façade can unfold its full effect with a lot of symbolic character.
The commercial and residential tower Downtown One in the centre of the capital Tirana is a visible expression of progress in Albania. At 144 metres above the ground, the project will be the tallest building in the country when completed with a time window until 2022. A mixed use of retail, commercial space, events, offices and flats is planned for the 78,000 m² of space, which is spread over 37 floors. In addition, five underground parking levels belong to the building.
It is not only the dimensions of the new building designed by the Dutch architecture and urban planning firm MVRDV for the client Kastrati Group that set standards. The façade also knows how to impress. The flat surface is broken up by many projections. These projections symbolically represent the country of Albania as a whole. Thus, the flats and offices in question represent certain places in the country.

The large glass surfaces of the façade are framed by elements made of basalt stone. Façade construction engineer Altin Mico from 3V Mico (Albania) decided to use the FZP II undercut anchors from the fischer group of companies to fix the natural stone panels. The fischer facade systems business unit supplied around 85,000 Zykon FZP II 13x26 M8/SO/17 Carbon panel anchors for this project.

Albania had long struggled with the consequences of the former socialist system. But in the years before the Corona pandemic, the country had made good progress with economic and political reforms. As a result, the European Union gave the green light for accession negotiations with the EU in March 2020. The Downtown One building complex embodies this new beginning. And it stands for sustainability. It is the first building in Albania to be awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) by the U.S. Green Building Council.
